Your account and appearance
Theme, interface size, note grouping, workspace layout, notifications and changing your own email or password.
Personal settings change how SCAD Maps looks and behaves for you alone. Nothing here affects what other people see. This page covers the account menu, appearance (theme, text size, note display), notifications, your sign-in details, and the two workspace layouts.
The account menu#
On a computer, choose the account button at the bottom of the sidebar. On a phone, choose More in the bottom navigation. The menu shows your name, your access level and your email address, and lists:
| Entry | What it opens |
|---|---|
| Your name | User Settings: account details and sign-in changes (see below). |
| Appearance | Theme, text size, note display and layout. |
| Notifications & location | Push alerts, location sharing and the GPS accuracy switch. |
| Refresh app | Reloads the app, for example after a new version. |
| Log out | Signs you out on this device. |
These settings open beside the account button, and they apply straight away, so there is nothing to save. Press Esc to close.
Appearance#
Colour theme#
Choose System (follow your device), Light or Dark. Dark mode dims the map background and darkens every panel, and is easier on the eyes at night on site.
In dark mode an extra checkbox appears, Invert Layer Colors. It flips the colours of the event floor plans so that dark lines on a light plan become light lines on a dark map. Turn it off if you prefer the original plan colours.
Interface size#
Choose Small, Normal, Large or Extra large. This scales the text and controls throughout the app, and is handy for gloves, bright sun or a small screen.
Notes on the zoomed-out map#
When many notes sit close together, this setting decides how they are drawn until you zoom in. The same choice is available in the filter panel; see Map, layers and views.
- Compact draws small dots.
- Group notes merges nearby notes into one count bubble.
- With tasks merges notes and tasks together.
Notifications#
Open Notifications & location and switch on Notifications to receive alerts on this device even when SCAD Maps is not open. Alerts are sent for tasks and incidents assigned to you and for direct messages.
- Switch on Notifications.
- Allow notifications when the browser asks.
- A confirmation appears, and the switch stays on for this device.
Every device is set up separately, so a phone and a laptop each need the switch. The line under the switch tells you why it cannot be used when it is greyed out:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Sign in to enable task and incident alerts | Sign in first. |
| Blocked in browser settings | Allow notifications for this site in the browser or phone settings, then reopen the panel. |
| Notifications are not supported in this browser | Use another browser. On iPhone, install the app to the Home Screen first; see Mobile use and offline. |
| Notifications are not enabled on this server | Ask your organiser. The instance has to switch push alerts on. |
The location switches in the same panel are explained in People and location.
Account details and sign-in#
Choose your name at the top of the account menu to open User Settings.
- Account lists your username, email address, access level and how much of your upload allowance you have used.
- Sign-in has Change email and Change password. Both ask for your current password first. A new password must be at least 8 characters, and you type it twice to confirm.
If you forget your password, use the reset link on the sign-in page where your instance has email switched on, or ask an administrator to reset it.
Workspace layout#
SCAD Maps comes with two layouts, and you choose per device.
- The workspace layout is the current design: a navigation bar, a command palette, panels that open beside their buttons and the shortcuts on Keyboard shortcuts.
- The classic layout is the earlier design with a floating action button and a map menu. It receives only security and data fixes, and no new features.
Under Appearance, choose Switch to the classic layout to change; the app reloads. Switching back is offered in the classic menu. Your organiser can choose which layout devices start with, but your own choice on a device always wins. Administrators find further settings in More settings in Dashboard at the bottom of Appearance.
