Machinery GPS tracking
Show live positions of machinery on the map, control who sees which tracker, and delegate it to GPS admins.
Build-up and breakdown phases run on machinery: lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, cranes and trucks. With machinery tracking, the GPS trackers fitted to those machines appear on the SCAD Maps map as live markers, next to your tasks and areas. A supervisor can see which lift is closest to a problem without radioing around, and each crew sees only the machines that concern them.
On the map#
Open the layer list and switch Machinery on. Each tracker is drawn as a marker in a distinct amber colour, with a small silhouette of the machine type. The positions refresh on their own every few seconds.
- Tap a marker to see the tracker's name and when it was last seen, such as "just now" or "12 min ago". A refresh button in the popup updates the position immediately.
- Dimmed markers. A tracker that has not reported for about 15 minutes is greyed out, so parked or switched-off machines do not compete with the ones that are moving. It stays on the map at its last known position.
- Who sees what. You only see the trackers your organiser has made visible to your roles. Guests never see machinery.
Set up the connection#
Connection settings live in the dashboard under Integrations, in the machinery tab, in a section called Connection. They are open to full Admins and GPS admins; a User Admin can see the setup but cannot change credentials.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Provider | Eyon for the live fleet, Mock for a made-up test fleet that lets you try the map and the permissions without real trackers, or Disabled. |
| API base address | Leave the default unless your tracking provider tells you otherwise. |
| App ID and Secret | The credentials the provider gave you. The secret is stored encrypted on the server and is never shown again. Leave the field blank later to keep the stored one. |
| Sub-customer | Optional. A provider account can contain several customer accounts; enter a name or ID to show only one of them. Blank means everything the credentials can reach. |
| Include sub-accounts | Also read trackers that belong to accounts below the chosen one. |
Choose Test connection before saving. It signs in with the values you typed and reports how many trackers it found, without storing anything. A saved change applies within about half a minute; there is no restart.
Manage the trackers#
Below the connection, the tracker table lists every device the provider reports. Trackers found earlier that are no longer reporting stay in the table as offline so their settings are not lost.
| Column | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Tracker | The provider's own name and identifier, for recognising the device. |
| Friendly name | The name people see on the map (up to 60 characters). Press Enter or leave the field to save. |
| Map look | Choose the marker icon from a list of machine silhouettes (generic, scissor lift, boom lift, telehandler, forklift, crane, truck) and a colour. The default is a wrench in amber. |
| Visible to roles | Edit roles opens a checklist of custom roles. Pick one or several. |
| Hide | Removes the tracker from the map for everyone, administrators included. It stays in this table so you can bring it back. |
| Last seen | How long ago the tracker last reported. |
To set roles for many trackers at once, tick their checkboxes and choose Set roles for selected. The dialog starts with the roles all selected trackers already share, and replaces the roles of every selected tracker when you confirm.
Anyone who may manage machinery can also rename a tracker or change its icon straight from its popup on the map, using the Rename and Change icon buttons. The change applies to everyone and does not touch the roles or the hide setting.
Who can manage machinery#
Machinery is the one place where SCAD Maps lets a custom role carry a permission. Mark a role as GPS admin in Users & Access, then Roles (only a full Admin can set the flag), and its members can administer the whole machinery surface without gaining any right to manage users.
| Who | Machinery rights |
|---|---|
| Admin | Everything, and sees every tracker on the map. |
| GPS admin (member of a flagged role) | Everything, including the credentials, and sees every tracker. Sees only the machinery tab under Integrations, and nothing else in the dashboard. |
| User Admin | Can manage names, icons, roles and hiding. Cannot change the connection credentials. |
| Everyone else | Sees the trackers made visible to their roles. No management. |
See Permissions for the full matrix and Users and access for how roles are created.
How fresh the data is#
The server asks the provider for all positions every 15 seconds and shares the result with everyone, so a large team does not multiply the load on the tracker account. Speed and status details are refreshed about once a minute. "Last seen" uses the tracker's heartbeat rather than its last GPS fix, so a machine that is parked with a stale fix but is still switched on shows as recently seen.
