3D buildings

The experimental 3D building layer, with per-building colours, labels, notes and attached files.

Flat plans are perfect for planning a site, but a crew sometimes needs to know which building is which, how tall a shed is or where the loading door sits. The 3D layers turn the surrounding buildings into a model you can tilt and rotate, tint the buildings that matter, attach notes and files to them, and add 3D objects from your own site drawing.

Show the buildings#

  1. Open the map menu and find 3D Gebouwen (3DBAG) in the base maps group. The name is Dutch for "3D buildings", after the national data set it comes from.
  2. Switch it on. The buildings stream in as you pan and zoom.
  3. Tilt the map to see them. Use the tilt button next to the zoom controls, or drag with two fingers up or down on a phone.

Your choice is remembered on that device. Notes, tasks and areas keep drawing on top of the buildings, so pins are never hidden behind a wall.

  • Data. The buildings come from the open 3DBAG data set of the Netherlands, a detailed model of every building in the country, published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Buildings are streamed on demand, so nothing large is downloaded up front.
  • Detail level. The instance chooses how detailed the models are. Lower detail loads faster on a poor connection.

Annotate a building#

Tap a building to open its sheet. Any signed-in person can read what has been written about a building; Admins and User Admins can edit it.

FieldWhat it is for
NameA short label, up to 120 characters, such as "Loods 3" or "Production office".
InfoFree text for the crew, up to 4,000 characters: access, opening hours, contacts, hazards.
AttachmentsUp to six photos or documents, such as a floor plan, an evacuation plan or a key list.
ColorTints the building on the map. Choose Change color to unfold the palette. The default leaves the building in the layer's plain grey.
  1. Tap the building. The sheet opens with the current name, text and files.
  2. Fill in the fields. Picking a colour previews it on the building straight away, before anything is saved.
  3. Choose Save. The colour appears for everyone on the instance without a reload.

Remove deletes the colour, text and files for that building after a confirmation, and the building returns to the default look. Closing the sheet without saving drops any colour you were only trying out.

On a computer, hovering over an annotated building shows a small card with its name and the first part of its text. Buildings with no annotation show nothing, and the sheet never displays anything from the public data set itself, only what your team wrote.

Objects from your site drawing#

If the site drawing is prepared with 3D objects such as tents, stages or structures, the organiser can publish them as 3D models placed at their exact position on the map. They appear under the 3D Tekening switch in the base maps group ("3D drawing"), which is on by default. The models draw beneath the streamed buildings, so a real building in front hides part of a tent behind it, the way it would in reality.

Admins and User Admins also get a 3D models section in the map menu with an Edit models button. Edit mode lets you correct what the drawing export placed:

  • Drag a model to move it, or drag the round handle to rotate it. Hold Shift while rotating to snap to 15 degrees.
  • Type an exact bearing or scale in the panel that opens for the selected model.
  • Duplicate makes a copy next to the original, Hide hides one instance, and Delete removes it.
  • Hide all of this model hides every instance of that model for everyone. The 3D models view in the dashboard lists globally hidden models so you can unhide them.
  • Choose Save to publish the changes to everyone. Exit leaves edit mode; unsaved changes are marked.

Saved placements are pushed live to every open screen. Preparing the models themselves is part of the drawing workflow described in Venue maps.

Building annotations are stored per building, not per person. If the account of the person who wrote one is later deleted, the annotation stays. Where these options are switched on and how the data source is chosen is listed in Instance configuration.
